MEET DR. ALISON

Dr. Alison Oshinomi, Gonstead Chiropractor

I was born and raised in Culver City, California. Growing up I attended schools in the Culver City Unified School District before attending the University of California, Los Angeles for my undergraduate education.  During high school a fall left me with intermittent low back pain.  There were times when my back spasmed so painfully that I was left stooped over “like an old lady” (at 15 years old!).  A family friend and wonderful chiropractor brought me into his office and took care of me.

At UCLA, I studied and received my Bachelor of Science degree in physiological science. Because of my love for playing basketball, I have always known I wanted to work closely with children and athletes and believed sports medicine was where I belonged.  But for some reason in the back on my mind I kept wondering “what’s this chiropractic stuff about and how did it work in helping me heal?” I made a trip to see my chiropractor from high school and asked what brought him to chiropractic. Simply put, he said everyone knows someone that is on a laundry list of medications or is scared into surgical procedures that too often do not help.  He said there is another way that is less invasive, conservative and natural that should be tried first and that secret is chiropractic!  I observed him in his clinic setting and watched patients heal – no quackery, no gimmicks.  I realized then that this is what I was meant to do.

After graduating from UCLA I headed to Cleveland Chiropractic College, Los Angeles.  In my attempt to figure out which technique I should study, I attended a Gonstead Seminar in San Francisco, California. It is there I received my first, path changing, Gonstead adjustment.  Hip pain that began from running in college had started to make me limp.  Dr. Po, a Gonstead Seminar staff doctor and mentor of mine took a look at my films, analyzed my spine diligently the way a Gonstead Chiropractor does, and adjusted and set my sacrum.  The pain disappeared an hour later as mobility and function were finally restored to my pelvis!  Of course, most pain and function does not always restore so quickly, but no one could tell me differently that this system of chiropractic was anything but different!

I graduated from Cleveland Chiropractic College of Los Angeles Magna Cum Laude and was extremely active in studying and promoting the Gonstead System. I traveled all over the nation to attend Gonstead Seminars taught by doctors that learned the Gonstead System from Dr. Gonstead himself.

Ultimately there is no better purpose than service.  There is no greater joy than to watch someone regain health and understand what it means to be well.  In my spare time, I love to spend time with family and friends.  I enjoy playing basketball, running, traveling and the outdoors – whether it is camping, hiking, being in the mountains, lying on the beach – I am there!  I do not watch much television but if there is a Bruin or Laker game on I am all over it!
